Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 10, 2023 (ZIZ Newsroom)– The St. Kitts Water Services Department has launched its 24 hour customer service hotline.
According to the department, the new service will allow the public to reach them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to report faults, broken lines, service interruptions and any other water issue.
At a brief ceremony to launch the service on Wednesday, Minister of Utilities Hon. Konris Maynard spoke of the importance of water.
“This is really an excellent time for the Water Services Department and it is just the start of many things to come. As you know, we have to transform our water services so that we regain once again 24 hours service.”
He said, “We want to be able to provide water to everyone who needs it. We have an obligation to this country as we further our development. Water is going to be critical for industries to feel that they can come and establish here in St. Kitts and Nevis. So we need to improve our water services and at the end of the day, we all know that water is life and every drop counts. And I’m depending on all of you to join with me on this journey to make the Water Service Department the envy utility of not only St. Kitts, not only Nevis, but of the region.”
Water Manager Engineer Cromwell Williams spoke of the expectations associated with offering this new 24 hour service.
“Water Services is by nature a 24 hours service. We expect that by providing our customers with a centralized call center and phone numbers that, one, it would be easier to reach us and at any time, two, your reports, your faults issues will be properly logged and so less likely to be forgotten or to remain unattended for long periods.”
“Having a dedicated after-hours emergency crew would mean that pipe breaks and other faults would be addressed in a shorter time.”
Assistant Secretary Shaniqua Carey-Brown gave an overview of the 24 hour hotline’s offerings.
“This service will provide assistance, resolve complaints, answer questions, process data in quick time. Our 24/7 service commitment will not be taken lightly. We understand the importance in communicating consistently to share information and to respond in a timely manner and this service will allow us to do that plus more. The main goal, however, of this service is to offer 24 hours communication to our customers or the public and to provide technical support outside of regular working hours.”
The St. Kitts Water Services Department has trained hotline operators ahead of the start of the new service. The Shifts for operators will be 7am to 3 pm, 3pm to 11pm and 11pm to 7am.
